Homeowners often ask about luxury vinyl flooring and whether it requires acclimation. The truth is these floors can expand and contract over time.
But the good news is that there are ways to address it. Read along with today’s post to find out more about it.
Luxury vinyl expands
Luxury vinyl flooring is a very versatile floor covering. But it’s also prone to temperature changes.
These floors can expand and contract when temps rise and fall drastically, especially in below-grade spaces. But there are ways to avoid damage.
Acclimation works well
Before installation, luxury vinyl should be acclimated for about 48 hours. This gives the flooring time to adjust to the temperature and humidity in the room.
As a result, only expected expansion and contraction levels will occur. But there's more we can do to keep your floors safe.
An expansion gap is added
When the installation team installs your luxury vinyl floors, they will take some additional steps toward protection. First, we will add an expansion gap in rooms prone to temperature fluctuations.
The recommended gap is one-quarter of an inch around the edge of the room. This gives the flooring space to move instead of buckling or warping.
If you have questions about your installation, be sure to talk with an associate. We look forward to creating your best floors with you.
