One question we hear often is this: What's the difference between waterproof and water-resistant?

Waterproof
, such as any vinyl flooring, means impervious to liquid. Water-resistance is highly watertight, but there's always a chance that something will get through.

Don't accept any vague answer from a waterproof flooring retailer, especially if you have concerns, challenges, or a leaky home.

Why would I need completely waterproof flooring?

There are lots of reasons, and it doesn't have to be weather-related.  Appliances, even air conditioners, can leak.  Washing machine hoses can become corroded and, the first thing you know, there can be 600 gallons of water on your floor. Even simple everyday things, like showering or cooking, create humidity.

The design itself is a big reason:  Wood floors are currently hot, and that's expected to last at least 15 years.  Many people want wood in the bathroom, or a basement game or family room, but can't have it.  Wood can be damaged by excess water and high moisture so it's not recommended for installation in either space.   Many floorings can be made to look like wood, so now you can have that look anywhere.

What about luxury vinyl flooring?

It is impermeable, and that makes it ideal for the kitchen, bath, and laundry room.  It is so stylish, however, that we're also seeing it in living/dining areas, entrance foyers, bedrooms, and more.

Also referred to simply as LVF, this is a remarkably realistic mimic of wood, tile, and stone.  It comes in an almost unlimited assortment of colors, patterns designs and species with embossing that gives the floor a textured appearance:  wire-brushed, hand scraped, weathered and distressed.

It can be cut into planks, which some also use for stone looks and groutable tile-sized pieces.

Waterproof Flooring
is vinyl with a technologically advanced core that won’t peel or ripple no matter how much water and moisture it experiences, or for how long. You have all the same design options as luxury.

Vinyl is easy to clean and durable and has an uncomplicated click-and-lock floating floor installation technique.
