One of the many benefits of luxury vinyl flooring (LVF) is that it is so low maintenance we say it will change your life. Combine that with high-end style, affordability, durability, and it will also transform your home.
Whether it's LVT flooring or luxury vinyl plank, regular maintenance includes a daily sweeping. Especially when the vinyl is pitted, dirt can lodge, and the floor will look dull and soiled. Periodic mopping should be done with a manufacturer-approved cleaner; avoid waxy, shine-promoting cleaners as they can damage the finish and dull the floor. Here, from Kelly's Carpet Omaha, is a more detailed guide.
First, sweep or dry mop or vacuum thoroughly before wet mopping.
That's because you don't want to spread dirt and dust. Get as much as possible, even the stuff that "hides" under cabinets and in corners. Remove beater bars (power rotary brush heads) from vacuums because they may damage the vinyl. Avoid scrub brushes that can scratch because they create more grooves in which dirt can lodge.
Removing tough stains
Even the most durable flooring materials can fall victim to stains, especially in busy areas, such as the kitchen or even the family room where people might eat in front of the television.
It's always best to use a cleaner that's recommended by the manufacturer, and it should be a pH-neutral floor cleaner that is safe to use on vinyl flooring. Avoid ammonia-based cleaning solutions or abrasive scrubbers or detergents, as they can damage and dull the floor.
Distilled water and pH-neutral floor cleaners usually lift light stains but for more stubborn stains, make a paste with baking soda and water. Apply the paste and rub gently until the stain is completely gone. Repeat if necessary and rinse well with a clean, damp cloth or well-wrung mop to remove all paste.
